My Tennessee Employer’s Insurance Investigator Did What???
When you are seriously injured on-the-job, most of your energy goes into healing and getting the bills paid. So understandably, you expect your employer to support your Tennessee workers’ compensation claim.
But the sad truth is that some insurance providers will go to great lengths to save themselves some cash. And one tactic involves hiring a private insurance investigator to spy on you. Here are some of the tricky ways an investigator will use to try to discredit your claim:
- Telephone you and try to get you to say something that makes it sound like you are not really injured as seriously as you claim.
- Secretly videotape you in your home and when you leave the house. The investigator may show up in your neighborhood after dark to videotape you in your house if the curtains are open. When you leave to go anywhere, he or she may be following you, hoping you will do something that could be used as evidence against you.
- Edit the videotape in such a way that you appear to be in much better shape than you are. It is not too difficult to take several days’ worth of videotape and edit it down to a ten-minute segment that looks like you have been constantly active.
- Talk to your neighbors or family members. Some investigators will knock on your neighbors’ doors and ask questions about you and your daily activities. They have a great deal of information about you available and may contact an ex-spouse or estranged relative, hoping he or she “has it in” for you.
- Provide false information in the report. While it is rare, an investigator may even outright lie in the report by providing information that simply isn’t true in any way. After all, his or her job is to discredit you and doing so, by any means, is job security.
