Meet Attorney Thomas R. Greer

My name is Thomas Greer, and I’m a trial lawyer with Bailey & Greer. The reason that I got into this business, first and foremost, is that I think it’s in my blood. My grandfather was a trial lawyer and a circuit court judge and my father’s a trial lawyer. So I’ve kinda been around it all my life.

I grew up in a really small town in Southeast Tennessee, and I watched my dad do all kinds of different cases. The most rewarding cases that he ever handled were personal injury cases; cases where people got wronged, people’s lives were shattered through no fault of their own because somebody else broke the rules. Getting to watch him get some sense of justice for those people really inspired me to go to law school and to do the kind of work that I do today.

I am aware that without lawyers like me, wrongdoers would not be held accountable for the harm that they cause in our society. It’s very easy to malign trial lawyers and make lawyer jokes, but we do important work. I have not only spent my entire career helping people that get hurt, helping families of victims of wrongful death, but I’ve also spent a significant amount of time and money helping organizations that have a broader purpose.

I’m the past President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers, where I worked with the legislature to lobby against legislation that’s harmful for Tennesseans. I am proud of the work that I’ve done, not just for my clients, but for people throughout the state of Tennessee.

I am inspired every day to come to work. I always feel sorry for people that they get up and maybe they dread their job. I don’t ever dread my job. There may be certain aspects of my job that I don’t like, or I like more than others, but if you think about it this way, we get to pick our clients. If somebody comes into the door to meet with me, I’m honored. I’ll spend time with them. If I’m your lawyer, it’s because I feel like you have a case, and I’m going to be with you through thick and thin, whether that’s reaching a settlement or whether that’s going to trial.

Every single one of my clients has my cell phone. They call me at home. They call me on the weekend because they know we’re part of the same team.
