  • In this time period there was a total of 14,423 bike wrecks.
  • The number of accidents increased over the four years, from 2,293 in 2004 to 3,257 in 2008.
  • There was a 42% increase in this time period, an annual average increase of 9.2%.
  • Not surprisingly, 38% of crashes occurred in the Summer, 33% in Spring, 17% in Fall, and 12% in Winter.
  • The day of the week also factored in to the accident stats. Over half of crashes occurred from Friday to Sunday.
  • Of all crash victims, 90% were between ages of 15 and 59.
  • The total number of crashes for ages 15-24 and 45-69 increased, while the number of wrecks for ages 25-44 decreased.
  • 10% of all crashes were speed related.
  • 6% of all wrecks were alcohol related.
  • About one fourth of all accidents happened at intersections.
  • About half of the accidents were single-vehicle crashes.

Every time you go out and hop aboard your bike, you should think about these statistics and be safe. Knowing the risks can help keep you from being counted in the next Tennessee motorcycle accident report.
