Teens Who Stole Trucks in Memphis Suffer Fatal Loss in Southaven
In early October, four teenagers stole two trucks from Memphis and drove them across state lines to Southaven, Mississippi. They were flying down a back road when one of the Ford F-150s flipped, killing a 16 year old Memphis teenager, and injuring another. The driver of the F-150 jumped into the second stolen vehicle and, after a car chase with police, was caught and arrested. The teenagers who fled the scene of the car accident were charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries and receiving stolen property.
Talk to your teens about safe driving
The number one cause of death for teenagers in the United States is car crashes, according to the Center for Disease Control. If you are a new driver or if you are the parent of a teen driver, it is important to have an excellent grasp of the rules of the road. You will also want to make sure your teen is well-versed in the safety features of any vehicle he or she might be driving. Too many accidents happen when teenagers play fast and loose with the rules of the road. Experience and patience due to years on the road makes better drivers of us all.
Safe driving is necessary for all ages, but it is especially key that your teen have a comfort level with being a safe driver. Teens that do not feel safe in cars with their peers should feel okay about asking to exit the vehicle and wait for a safer ride. Parents of teen drivers know all too well the often-fatal consequences of manning the steering wheel and of trusting other teenagers to correctly and safely do the same. If your child has been in or has caused an auto accident, after appropriate medical attention, you and your child should call a Memphis car accident attorney.
Don’t get in the car if you don’t feel safe
New drivers should be aptly trained and licensed before getting behind the wheel of a car. If you have a friend who is urging you to commit crimes – such as the Memphis teens that stole these cars and went joyriding in Mississippi – politely decline and find another ride. You can get hurt or injure other people by going along with the crowd. You don’t want to be another statistic, and you don’t want the kind of friends that would pressure you into breaking the law or driving recklessly.
Never feel guilty for not wanting to join in the “fun,” because you could be saving a life. New drivers and parents of new drivers often have questions after an auto accident.
