One Man Killed, One Injured in Tennessee Truck Accident

A Smyrna, Tennessee resident was killed Monday, January 30, when a semi truck struck his pickup truck on Interstate 124 near mile marker 81. Carlos Aldana, 41, died when a 2006 Volvo semi hit the passenger side of Vladimir Aldana’s 1995 Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the semi, David Tatum, 53, of Owensboro, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound on the interstate in the same direction as the Aldanas. Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Brian Carmouche reported that Vladimir Aldana lost control of his vehicle as he tried to change lanes. The pickup truck spun and was struck by Tatum’s big rig on passenger Carlos Aldana’s side.

Also involved in the crash was Natalie Rains, 27, and her passenger, Daniel Burton. Rains’ vehicle was hit by the pickup as it continued to spin after being struck by the semi. Neither Rains nor Burton were injured.

Vladimir Aldana was taken to the hospital with undermined injuries, while Carlos died following the accident after being airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The semi driver, Tatum, was not injured.

The cause of the accident has still not been fully determined, but State Trooper Carmouche said that he didn’t think that alcohol or drugs were factors in the deadly crash, but that blood tests were ordered on Tatum and Aldana as a routine procedure.

Carmouche added that Carlos Aldana was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and that the semi truck was carrying a load of liquid plastic when the crash occurred.

The Memphis personal injury law firm of Bailey & Greer would like to extend their sympathies to the family of Carlos Aldana.
