Memphis Woman Dries When Driver Stops to Help Stranded Motorist
A woman is dead after a fatal accident on Interstate 240 in Memphis.
The accident occurred at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2012, on I-240 near Poplar. Forty-one-year-old Yukelia L. Kizer was a passenger in a maroon 2008 Dodge Avenger. The driver of the Avenger noticed a car stranded on the right lane of the highway. He made a U-turn so he could offer the stranded driver a jump start.
After he stopped in the right lane in front of the other car, a black Chevrolet Impala crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle. Ms. Kizer, a single mother with two daughters, was killed.
The driver of the Impala, 25-year-old Jose Martinez Valle of Memphis was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, public intoxication, open container and having no proof of insurance. Valle was held in Shelby County Jail on $200,000 bond.
As of October 22, there were a total of 825 traffic fatalities for the year in the state of Tennessee. During the same period, in 2011, there were 791 Tennessee traffic deaths. However, in Shelby County, we have actually seen 15 percent fewer car accident deaths. Last year there were 80 accident deaths in the ten month period, compared to 68 this year. Davidson County has also seen a decrease in car crash fatalities.
It is truly tragic when a careless or drunk driver causes a fatal traffic accident. Each Memphis car accident fatality is an individual who was loved and will be missed. The Memphis car accident attorneys at Bailey & Greer would like to offer our condolences to Ms. Kizers family.
